Prayer Reflection Video - 10 February 2025
Mary McLachlan, from the South Eastern Baptist Association, reflects on opportunities to share our story.
We all have a story to tell, but how do we tell it?
I’ve always been struck by the nuanced ways that Paul tells his story in the later chapters of Acts. My circumstances have recently changed and I’ve come out of traditional Baptist ministry to work for a friend to regenerate his farmshop café. As part of my work I encounter many people. Often I ask people if they are local or if they’re just passing through – and sometimes that leads them to ask me the same question. At that moment, I pause and I pray, ‘Lord, how shall I tell my story in a way that will bring life to these people?’
Sometimes I just say, “I’m local – it’s a long story”, and leave it at that. Or there’s the full story which is very God-focused in how he has guided us over this last year. And then, many versions in between.
And yet I haven’t been drawn into any other conversations about faith, but you just never know when God might use something that we have said to touch someone else.
Lord, as we encounter others, help us to share our stories in ways that bring life, listening to the promptings of your Spirit each time. Amen
