Live out the gospel message during Shipley covenant service
The annual covenant service at Shipley Baptist Church was marked by specially-made bookmarks and a new song from deacon John Froud based on Romans 10:14, the scripture text for the year
Shipley Baptist Church, West Yorkshire, celebrated its New Year covenant service on 2 January by reciting the the church's covenant together and distributing specially made bookmarks containing both the covenant and the Scripture text for the year, Romans 10:14.
This annual event was marked by the premiere of a new song Live out the Gospel by John Froud (singer/songwriter), a deacon at the church. His song is based on the text from Romans:
How are they to call on one in whom they have believed? And how are they to believe in one whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone to proclaim him?
The song was an instant hit with the congregation and will be used throughout the year in services.
As part of the worship on Covenant Sunday, the congregation also sang the song based on the church's scripture text for 2021 "The light shines in the darkness and the darkness cannot overcome it" (John 1), and as part of the prayers, John's setting to music of the SBC Midday prayer.
Commenting on this event, Keith Jones, part of the leadership team at Shipley, said, 'The church members and congregation really value having a text for the year and we are always delighted when John accepts a commission to put the text into a song.
'John's on-going ministry through the Zephaniah Trust, continues, with the Zephaniah Team, to bring light into dark places in many schools in the City of Bradford and the Spen Valley.'
