Clive Burnard new YBA regional minister

The Revd Dr Clive Burnard has been appointed as a new regional minister of the Yorkshire Baptist Association

Clive BurnardClive is currently serving as Senior Minister at Mutley Baptist Church, Plymouth. He brings with him significant experience of both local church leadership, and of service in the wider denomination and ecumenically.

In a statement, the YBA said it was 'thrilled' to announce the appointment. Clive will become the third regional minister on the team, joining Graham Ensor and Mary Taylor.

Liz Allen, Chair of the Association Executive and Appointment Group said, 'The Appointment Group were impressed by and thankful for the number and calibre of applications made for this role.

'We thank God for His gentle leading and for the strong sense of discernment during the process. The Association Executive commend this appointment to our member churches and welcome your prayers in the coming weeks and months.'

Throughout his ministry, Clive has been involved in different aspects of Association life as well as engaging in various local expressions of Churches Together. He has served on the Baptist Union Council and Baptist World Alliance as well as being part of the steering group for the Baptists Together “Conference for Pastors of Larger Churches”.

With experience in church planting and evangelism, a commitment to mentoring and training leaders and teams, and experience of teaching, 'Clive brings a heart to serve, encourage, inspire and support YBA churches,' the statement added.

The move north is a return to his Yorkshire roots as Clive’s early years were spent in Scarborough and he attended university during the late 1970s in Sheffield. Clive came to faith in Christ at the age of 32.

A call to train for ministry led to study at Moorlands College during the early 1990s; his MTh in Applied Theology and DMin were completed through Spurgeon’s College. Clive’s first pastorate was with Christchurch Baptist Church, Dorset from 1992 until 2007 where his first role was as part-time assistant pastor, before subsequently being called as senior pastor. He was called to Andover Baptist Church in 2007 before moving to Mutley in 2015.

Clive and his wife, Marilyn, will be based in South Yorkshire.

The YBA statement added, 'Please join with us in prayer as Clive and Marilyn prepare for their move North, and for this exciting time in the life of the staff team and in the Association. We also remember in prayer our brothers and sisters in Christ at Mutley Baptist Church as they say “au revoir” to their valued pastor and friend.'
