What does it mean to be ‘nonconformist’ now?'

Baptist churches are invited to showcase their 'nonconformist' activities as part of a project for a Royal Photographic Society distinction

Hebden

This builds on an earlier photographic project by Gerard Liston that documented the transformation of Hope Baptist Chapel to become a community sanctuary space in Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire.

Gerard is a member of Hope Baptist Church and he explained, 'From the outset, Protestant churches did not "conform" to the established Church of England and emphasized religious freedom and equality, pursuit of justice, and opposition to discrimination, compulsion, and coercion.

'So, I am searching for half a dozen Baptist churches where I can document what it means to be nonconformist today, in a modern world where injustice, discrimination and even existential threats to the planet remain cause for concern.'
