'trypraying across the Dales'
Friends at Skipton Baptist Church have been encouraging people to "try praying" as a result of becoming involved with trypraying.org - and have been joined by dozens of other churches across the Yorkshire Dales. Minister Phil Burns takes up the story
It centres around a 7-day prayer booklet which is particularly aimed at those who don’t 'do' church but challenges them to give prayer a go. There have been some quite amazing stories from the 'trypraying' team of people coming to know Jesus through using these books.
We at Skipton Baptist Church interviewed the founder David Hill last year as part of one of our online services and, knowing we were thinking about 'trypraying' as a follow-on from our #doyouknowHim? initiative, he linked us with a guy in Masham who was also involved in 'trypraying'.
The short version of the story is that we at Skipton and the church in Masham agreed to be part of a Spring 2021 roll-out of 'trypraying' in our town. But we also extended the invitation to other church contacts across Skipton and near Masham and it then grew to include a few others too. Hence 'trypraying across the Dales' came about.
It has grown quite quickly and unexpectedly. Currently there are around 45 churches from various denominations which have signed up to the initiative which involves displaying a banner outside a church and having a perspex box of 'trypraying' booklets available for people to take. The map above shows the area which is covered at the moment.
