Concert series marks 150th anniversary at Avenue Baptist Church

Avenue Baptist Church in Westcliff-on-Sea is marking its 150th anniversary with a series of live music events this June, bringing together award-winning performers, contemporary gospel acts and a nationally recognised entertainer for three evenings of music, community and fundraising

The programme opens with John Fisher & IDMC Gospel Soul Choir, a multi-award-winning UK choir known for their powerful harmonies and high-energy performances. With over 30 years of experience, the group has performed across the UK and Europe, including at the London Olympics.

AV4C (Anointed Voices 4 Christ) bring a contemporary gospel sound to Avenue. The family-based vocal group gained national recognition after reaching the semi-finals of The Voice UK in 2023. They are known for their modern, uplifting performances and contemporary style, with strong appeal to younger audiences.

The series concludes with Jonathan Veira and his nationwide show Not Dead Yet, combining music, humour and storytelling. A renowned bass-baritone with a career spanning over 30 years, Jonathan has appeared on BBC Songs of Praise and performed extensively across the UK and internationally.

Each event will support a different charitable cause. Proceeds will be donated to Southend City Baptist Church’s community meals programme, Compassion UK, and Southend Foodbank, helping provide practical support to people experiencing hardship both locally and internationally.

Jane Guest, minister of Avenue Baptist Church, said, 'Celebrating 150 years is a significant milestone for us. These events are an opportunity to bring people together, enjoy great music and support charities that are making a real difference in people’s lives.'

All events take place at Avenue Baptist Church, Milton Road, Westcliff-on-Sea.

Tickets start from £5 and are available at ticketsource.co.uk/avenue-baptist-church.

Alongside the concert series, Avenue Baptist Church will also host a special children’s service featuring Christian songwriter and performer Doug Horley (Duggie Dug Dug). The free service is designed for children and families and forms part of the church’s wider anniversary celebrations.
