'Finding Jesus through social media'

The testimony of Anastasia, a young adult baptised at Magor Baptist Church, Gwent

Social media1I am really excited to be baptised today. Before I came to Jesus Christ I’d consider myself agonistic towards religion, I just didn’t get it. And I didn’t feel that it had any place in my life.

And then last year I started getting social media posts about Jesus popping up on my Facebook and Instagram pages. At the time, I found this weird and out of the blue. But looking back, I think this was God reaching out to me. I know it sounds funny and is a really unconventional way of coming to faith but I think this is how a lot of a people nowadays are finding Jesus, through social media.

After these images and videos kept increasing I started to do my own research into Christianity and Jesus and ended up buying my own Bible, much to the surprise of my parents. I’d read it everyday, underlining interesting verses and looking up the meaning, just desperate to find out more. I think this was the moment where everything clicked for me and that I truly began to have a relationship with God.

But I was still lacking something. I have lots of loyal, amazing friends but none of them know Jesus. I was craving fellowship with people that had the same beliefs and people that could help strengthen my faith and be a guidance to me.

Which led to me in July last year asking my mum if she would come to church with me. Which brings us to now. I’m so thankful for the warm welcome and friendship I have experienced since going to this church and I just wanted to thank you for all playing a part in my journey with God.

Since God sought me out and brought me to Him I have felt such a sense of inner peace and certainty. No longer do I feel lost trying to find my purpose in this life because now I know that my purpose is living for God instead of living for the world. I have felt His presence in everything I do and whenever I am nervous or anxious I just repeat “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”. (Philippians 4:13) This has become my daily motto.

My baptism today represents that I have been saved by God’s Grace and that I declare to the whole world that Jesus Christ is my lord and saviour.
