Jim Stapleton: 1932-2018

Long serving member of Salisbury Road Baptist Church  


Jim StapletonHoly week at Salisbury Road Baptist Church started with the news of the passing to glory of Jim Stapleton, a member of the church for 69 years and a history of church attendance that goes back all of his 86 years.

Jim served the church as Sunday school teacher, deacon and church secretary (twice) and as a member of The Boys' Brigade for 79 years when he joined the Life Boys and carried on through the ranks to be company captain.

He also served as Battalion training officer and President of the Plymouth Battalion. The west of England district of The Boys' Brigade also honoured him as a Vice President of the District. He was also a personal member of the Baptist World Alliance and was in regular contact with them at the HQ in the USA.

Jim also served as secretary of the Plymouth Free Church Federal Council and as its President before Churches Together was formed. Jim was well known in Plymouth Baptist and BB circles.  

The advancement of Christ's kingdom was pre-eminent and paramount in his life. He served the church for many years showing great love and compassion with a deep faith and commitment to his Lord and Saviour.

Jim has two daughters, Anne and Lynda who are both very active in the life of the church and within Girls' Brigade.

His service of thanksgiving took place at 12.45 pm on Thursday, 12 April at Salisbury Road Baptist Church.
