Bake-off in Baptist church
A tantalising array of cakes, savouries, breads and biscuits filled Durham City Baptist Church as the popular programme reached its conclusion
Durham City Baptist Church has just hosted The Great Gilesgate Bake Off, an event for the local community in Gilesgate to come together and celebrate baking.
Everybody, young and old, was invited to bake cakes, biscuits, bread and savoury items.
More than 40 baked items were made for people to judge with all proceeds going to Durham Food Bank.
Amy Smith, part of group, who organised the event, told Premier Radio, ‘The idea is to recreate the nation’s favourite TV programme at our church. It’s a really good hook to draw people in.
‘Everybody made a cake or a pie and entered our competition. We also had activities for the children as well.’
Amy was really pleased with the response from the community, with lots of new faces.’
Ronnie Wynd, the minister of the church, actually won second place for his date and walnut cake.
