A special day for Waltham Cross Baptist Church
Waltham Cross Baptist Church (WXBC) recently celebrated a significant milestone as we held our first baptismal service, the last one being in 2017, writes pastor Niron Ramdanie. It was a day filled with joy, thanksgiving, and a renewed sense of God's faithfulness to His church.
When I arrived at WXBC 23 months ago, I inherited a church that was struggling both spiritually and practically. The congregation had experienced a difficult season, and even the church building itself reflected the challenges that had accumulated over the years. There were times when I questioned why God had called me to this particular place and what His purpose was in bringing me here.
The task seemed overwhelming, and the road ahead appeared uncertain.
However, God had not abandoned His church. Through His grace and provision, He placed alongside me the then Regional Minister, Winston Bygrave, whose guidance, wisdom, and encouragement proved invaluable during those early months. Together, and supported by the prayers of faithful believers, we began the slow but important work of rebuilding and revitalising the church.
Winston and I established a structure of regular support and accountability. We met monthly to review the life and ministry of the church, discussing what was working well, what challenges remained, and what new initiatives could help move the church forward. These meetings provided practical guidance, but they also reminded me that I was not labouring alone.
One of the first priorities was to rekindle the church's prayer life. We reintroduced monthly prayer meetings, recognising that genuine renewal must begin with seeking God. As members gathered to pray together, we witnessed a growing sense of unity, expectation, and dependence upon the Lord. Prayer became the foundation upon which further ministry developments were built.
During this period, I also sensed God placing a burden on my heart to begin a monthly Bible study. This provided an opportunity for deeper discipleship, helping both members and visitors engage more fully with God's Word. As people gathered to study the Scriptures together, spiritual growth became evident, relationships were strengthened, and confidence in sharing faith increased.
Another important step was the introduction of a membership course. This allowed individuals to explore the beliefs, mission, and vision of WXBC while considering a deeper commitment to the church family. Through this process, God began drawing people closer to Himself and into the life of the congregation.
The fruit of these efforts was seen in a particularly encouraging way through our recent baptismal service. Seeing a believer publicly declare their faith in Jesus Christ through baptism was a powerful testimony to God's transforming work. It represented not only a personal commitment to Christ but also a visible sign that God is continuing to build His church at WXBC.
In addition to the baptism, we had the privilege of welcoming two new members into the fellowship. Their decision to join the church family marked another important step in the ongoing renewal of the congregation. Together, these events served as tangible evidence that God is bringing new life and growth to WXBC.
It was only fitting that we invited Winston to participate in this special service. Given the significant role he played in mentoring and supporting both the church and me during this season of rebuilding, his presence made the occasion even more meaningful. It was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate together what God has done and to give thanks for His faithfulness.
As we reflected on the journey of the past 23 months, we were reminded that church revitalisation is ultimately God's work. Through prayer, faithful leadership, discipleship, and dependence upon Him, we have witnessed encouraging signs of renewal.
While there is still much work to be done, this baptismal service and the welcoming of new members stand as milestones that testify.
