A unified call to mission and renewal

Andy Glover reports on the recent day of prayer and fasting, which saw gatherings take place in all Associations, as well as online

Fresh Streams prayer and fasti

Baptists from across the UK united for a significant day of prayer and fasting, with both onsite and online gatherings on Thursday, 26 September.

Organised by Fresh Streams in collaboration with the 13 Associations of Baptists Together, the event brought together leaders to seek God's guidance for the present and future of our Baptist family, with a special focus on the Everyone Everywhere initiative.

One of the day’s key highlights was the flexibility offered by combining onsite and virtual meetings. Many churches opened their doors for collective prayer sessions, while others participated from the comfort of their homes or workplaces. This hybrid format created a space for inclusivity, ensuring that location was not a barrier to gathering, praying, and supporting one another.

Prayer Themes of the Day

The prayer focus was fourfold, addressing the broader Baptist movement, the Everyone Everywhere initiative, the churches within our associations, and one another as individuals in the body of Christ.

For our Baptist movement

Participants prayed for the continued growth, unity, and mission of the Baptist movement. There was a heartfelt call to be people who stand firm in faith, reflecting Christ in all aspects of life. The prayers sought a renewed passion to advance God’s Kingdom and a vision to see lives transformed by the Gospel.

For the Everyone Everywhere initiative

This new initiative is designed to encourage individuals and churches to step out in faith, share the Good News, and start new Christian communities. Prayers were offered for God's blessing and guidance, with the hope that this initiative would spark a fresh wave of mission and evangelism both locally and nationally. (The first Everyone Everywhere national conference takes place on 8 October)

Many felt inspired to embrace this call to reimagine how they could reach their communities.

For the churches in our Associations

The day also saw many lift up their fellow churches in prayer, seeking unity of purpose and growth in ministry. There was a clear desire for churches to make a deeper impact within their communities by building bridges of love and hope.

The prayers focused on empowering each church to fulfil its calling in sharing the Gospel and serving its local context.

For one another

Lastly, time was spent praying for one another. The day provided a space for participants to pray that they would be strengthened and encouraged on this shared journey of faith. The sense of community was palpable, as people supported each other in prayer, lifting burdens and celebrating blessings.

Reflections on the day

Throughout the day, a powerful sense of unity emerged. Despite geographical distances, there was a shared focus on God's work within the Baptist movement.

Many participants testified to the deep connection they felt through prayer, with comments on the collective sense of belonging and encouragement.

The day helped foster a renewed sense of purpose and a spirit of optimism for the future.

The Day of Prayer and Fasting on 26 September was a success. It created space for spiritual renewal and rekindled hope for an exciting season of mission and growth.

As we look ahead, we trust that the seeds planted through this time of prayer will bear fruit, both in the Baptist movement and in the communities we serve.
