Interested in the theology of earth and space?

Mystery and Mission is the title of Baptist Theology North, which is holding its 12th annual event on 9 June in Huddersfield

Two scientist-theologians will speak on the mystery of earth and space and how their work opens up new windows into mission – and some amazing images and unique theological perspectives are guaranteed.

The Revd Dr Lucas Mix of ECLAS (Equipping Christian Leaders in an Age of Science) previously worked for NASA, and will give the morning keynote: Can Christians Believe in Space?

He says, ‘Heaven and space are different, but tales the two have long been linked. Join us for a discussion of mystery and mission above the clouds, the history of ascent stories, and how they inform current debates about faith and space travel’.

After lunch the keynote will be given by the Revd Dr Dave Gregory, Baptist Missioner for Science and Environment. Dave will take an environmental theme, Imaging a visual theology for an age of climate change – wonder, playfulness and unity, alongside hosting a visual exhibition through the day.

There will also be short papers by local Baptists, which are a vital part of the annual event and offer an opportunity to try out a theological idea in a friendly environment.

The distinctive of the day is a focus on conversation, discussion and shared ideas, and possibly the most important part of Baptist Theology North is lunch, allowing attenders to meet old and new friends, explore the themes, and get fresh inspiration for the mind.

Baptist Theology North began in 2010 and has met annually apart from a break for Covid. It offers an opportunity to Baptists living further north to engage with some great theology and to be excited about faith and mission in new ways.

If you are interested, please contact Sally Nelson for more information, or to book a place, at sally.nelson@sthild.org. There is still room for a couple more short papers if you would like to offer one – please contact Sally.

The day will run from 9.30am to 3.15pm at Huddersfield New North Road Baptist Church, and costs £30, with a nice lunch and other refreshments included.

Please note that the day is an onsite event.
