'Commit to pray against youth violence'

A new campaign to mobilise Christians to pray for a reduction in youth crime has launched

Peace on our Streets

Peace On Our Streets has been launched by Premier Christian Communications. Working in cooperation with the Christian Police Association, the organisation is responding to the request of the Deputy Chief Constable of the Devon and Cornwall Police to mobilise churches and church leaders across the UK, and unite to combat the problem of youth related crime, in particular knife violence.

Knife crime continues to increase in the inner cities of the UK and amongst young people at an alarming rate. Peace On Our Streets calls on Christians from across the country, and across denominations, to harness the power of prayer and pray for the reduction in these incidences of youth violence.

Christians can sign-up to pray by visiting a dedicated microsite, peaceonourstreets.org.uk. This microsite features a map and allows users to enter their postcode to show which area they are praying for, with the ultimate aim to cover the entire map in prayer. Users will also be able to access local crime figures that can be used as a prayer point, as well as the option to receive supporting resources, such as text prayers and weekly e-sends to support their prayer journey.

Editor of Premier’s Youth and Children’s Work magazine, Ruth Jackson said, 'In a recent BBC interview, the Prime Minster said that the government had to do more to tackle knife crime, however as a church we also have a responsibility to help bring about change.'

Premier will be hosting a season of supporting programmes, features and interviews on Premier Christian Radio, Premier Gospel and Premier Praise in October. In addition, there will be articles and blogs from Premier Christianity and Premier Youth and Children’s work magazine.
