The rally aims to both promote better palliative care and to oppose any move toward legalising euthanasia or assisted suicide. It has been organised by Care Not Killing, in association with CARE (Christian Action Education and Research) and Right to Life. It takes place on Tuesday, 3 July at the Emmanuel Centre in Marsham Street.

A spokeswoman for CARE said there is increasing pressure from those wanting to change the law on assisted suicide. Just this weekend Lord Falconer announced he's intending to introduce a new bill to legalise assisted suicide next year.

She added, 'So far this year there has been the publication of the Falconer Commission promoting assisting suicide, three debates in Parliament in which parliamentarians have spoken out in favour of changing the law, the announcement that a new Bill is to be published in the Scottish Parliament legalising assisted suicide and a number of high profile court cases which are being used by those promoting a change in the law to try and change public opinion.

'This rally will be a great opportunity to learn more about the current situation regarding assisted suicide and euthanasia as well as to let MPs know that we don't think the law should be weakened.'

The day involves a workshop on talking to your MP about assisted suicide at 10am. Participants are encouraged to meet their MP between 11am and 2pm.

The Parliamentary rally takes place from 2-3pm, featuring Ann Widdecombe, Lord Alton of Liverpool, Jim Dobbin MP, Fiona Bruce MP, Prof Lord McColl of Dulwich and others.
