Spurgeon's College has announced two major new appointments - the Vice Principal and a tutor in Theology and Public Thought

New appointments at Spurgeons

The new Vice-Principal is Dr Peter Morden, who joined the staff at the College in 2007. Dr Morden trained at Spurgeon's in the 1990s, after which he became associate pastor at Victoria Baptist Church, Eastbourne and then senior pastor at Shirley Baptist Church, Solihull.

He was a member of the Baptist World Alliance council between 2005 and 2010 and has been a council member of the BMS World Mission since 2008.

He is a fellow of the Royal Historical Society and is Adjunct Professor of History, Golden Gate Theological Seminary, San Francisco, California. A well-known author, his recent popular academic works on John Bunyan and CH Spurgeon have been very well received.

As Vice Principal he will take a special interest in the training of those seeking ministerial accreditation from the Baptist Union.

The new tutor in Theology and Public Thought is Dr Joshua Searle. A young scholar, he studied Modern History at Regents Park, Oxford, went on to do an MTh in Applied Theology at the International Baptist Theological Seminary in Prague and completed his Doctorate at Trinity College Dublin, where his thesis was on The Hermeneutics of Crisis: Evangelicals, Apocalyptic Eschatology and the Northern Ireland Troubles.

New appointments at Spurgeons He speaks German and Russian and has spent a term teaching at the Donetsk Christian University, Ukraine.

In 2012 he co-edited, with Kenneth Newport, a book called Beyond the End: the Future of Millennial Studies (Sheffield University Press, 2012)

Both will start in post in September 2013.

New Principal of Spurgeon's College, Roger Standing, who will also take up his position in September, said, 'Spurgeon's is set to embark on an exciting new era. Theological education in the UK has a number of challenges to face over the next few years but both staff and students at the College are well placed to meet them.

'These keynote new appointments, which have both gone to leading scholars in their field, will further enable us to serve both our current student body and also the worldwide Baptist and Christian communion.'
