'Without vision, the people perish’ (Proverbs 29:18) is true - but without good governance, the vision perishes", so a wise man once told me.
Governance is the word which holds all of the mechanics of running a church together. This includes the Trust Deeds (about the bricks and mortar) and the Constitution (about the people). This now also includes many legal requirements to which we, as ‘owners’ of a public building, must adhere and be compliant.
Each church must have at least three Charity Trustees who must know what they are legally and spiritually responsible for; ideally a Secretary and Treasurer plus one other.
There are many Baptist Union guidelines which are essential reading, especially for new members of the Charity Trustees (Deacons).
