The Assisted Dying Debate

The question of whether the law should allow some terminally ill adults to receive assistance to end their own lives continues to provoke significant debate within churches and wider society, and has been the subject of considerable parliamentary attention in recent years.

Assisted dying raises profound and often deeply personal questions about the value of human life, compassion and suffering, personal autonomy, the protection of those who may be vulnerable, palliative and end-of-life care, and our responsibilities towards one another.

The resources below aim to help Baptists engage thoughtfully, prayerfully and compassionately with these questions. They include an introduction to the UK legal and parliamentary context, perspectives from within Baptist life, and links to further theological, parliamentary, medical and campaigning resources representing a range of views.
