Maintenance Grants

Maintenance Grants, funded by Historic England, are now available to help you cover the costs of any works identified in a Quinquennial Inspection report or Maintenance Plan.

Grants are for 50% of the cost of the works, up to £200 and can cover labour, materials and/or high-level access.

The works must be completed, and the grant claimed, by the end of March 2022.

We particularly encourage applications from churches seeking to maintain roofs and rainwater goods.

Eligibility

To be eligible for a grant, churches must:

  • Have a listed chapel in England
  • Be in membership with the Baptist Union of Great Britain
  • Have a Quinquennial Inspection report from 2016 or later, undertaken by a conservation accredited professional
  • Have a Maintenance Plan

How to Apply

  • Download and complete the Application Form below
  • Email it to listedbuildings@baptist.org.uk with the subject line “MAINTENANCE GRANT APPLICATION” and the name of your church,

with the following attachments (in pdf, jpeg or png format):
    • Up-to-date Maintenance Plan (we recommend using the Historic England Maintenance Checklist)
    • Before photograph(s) – if not included in your QI

And, if not already held by us:

    • Quinquennial Inspection report from 2016 or after and undertaken by a conservation accredited professional

If you're successful

If your application is successful, please be prepared to submit the following as soon as possible:

  • Proof of any necessary permissions (if applicable)
  • Risk Assessment
  • Log Book detailing at least the date of the works to which the grant applies

Accredited contractors, experienced in church and historic building maintenance, can be booked through MaintenanceBooker
Or find further registers linked from our page www.baptist.org.uk/conservationprofessionals

Why Small Maintenance Grants?

We were thrilled to help so many churches with their Quinquennial Inspections in 2021 and are pleased to be able to continue this support by funding some of the works identified in resulting reports.
This is a pilot scheme that we hope will promote routine care in listed Baptist chapels, supported by maintenance planning and logging.

If you have any queries, please contact us at listedbuildings@baptist.org.uk or on 01235 611444.

We look forward to receiving your application!
