Hybrid event for Theology Live

For the first time ever, Theology Live! is set to take place as a hybrid onsite and online event when it is held on 28 January

Theology Live

Theology Live! brings together Baptists engaged in theological and biblical research to share their thinking. The day comprises a series of short papers, reflecting the diversity of current Baptist theological engagement, with opportunities to interact with speakers.

The next event is the fifth in its history and will be held at Bloomsbury Central Baptist Church in London. Last year's Theology Live! was online only as it took place in a national lockdown. After the success of the online version last year, organisers decided to keep that option open, but also wanted to make space for people to meet in person again.

Alongside the papers is an opportunity for people to gather, network and and engage with speakers further than the format sometimes allows.

The confirmed speakers are:
1. Paul Fiddes — Iris Murdoch, the Human Person and God
2. Ali Boulton — ‘Church Down Ali’s’ An Exploration of whether ‘church’ happens at Pamper Night.
3. Amanda Higgin — Not Without Us: Perfection as a Hermeneutic in the Letter to the Hebrews
4. Emma Nash — 'Hope is an axe you break down doors with’: Resurrection as an act of protest
5. Edward Pillar — Residual Misogyny and the Mystery of the Missing Women in 1 Corinthians 15
6. Lisa Kerry — A Profession of Faith? Professionalism in Baptist Ministry
7. Ruth Gouldbourne — Reinventing the Wheel 25 years on; a partial reflection
8. Steve Holmes — When (if ever) did the General Baptists become Arminian?
9. Anthony Clarke — Questioning our Commitments: Exploring Hermeneutical Practice in Discussions of Human Sexuality

The event is open to all and free of charge. It is organised by: Andy Goodliff (Belle Vue Baptist Church); Steve Holmes (University of St Andrews); Ruth Moriarty (ChristChurch, New Southgate & Friern Barnet) and Simon Woodman (Bloomsbury Central Baptist Church).

Andy said, 'We’re really excited about the line-up and pleased to continue to see new names who are taking up the opportunity of postgraduate theological research.

'We’re also pleased to have Paul Fiddes speak. Paul has been major Baptist theological voice in the last 30 years and it's wonderful to see how he continues to keep the rest of us on our theological toes.'
