Doorstep Carols
Danny Brierley from Chester Road Baptist Church in Sutton Coldfield has shared this initiative with us:
Let's save Christmas! Sing Doorstep Carols with your neighbours, socially-distanced from your doorsteps, on Monday 21 December at 8pm. Bring light on the darkest and longest of nights. Get your neighbours involved! DoorStepCarols.com
Though we originally designed this for Sutton Coldfield, West Midlands, DoorStepCarols.com seems to be catching on all over! Now, we're thinking, based on the response we're seeing on our Facebook page/event, it's highly probable 5-10,000 people across the UK will sing Doorstep Carols with us on 21 December. That's nuts!
We're not alone. There are other variations of this out there! (eg Premier Radio's Carols on the Doorstep & BBC Radio Shropshire's 'Winter' Carols - what happened to Christmas Carols?!) TBH, we thought we'd hit on an original idea and then, as we launched, discovered others had been having similar ideas! No worries, the different dates and ethos are good!
As a Christmas event, it's simple, free, Covid-secure, weather-proof and has no pack-down. What's not to like? Our website includes an interactive map so people can find a participating church near them. We've designed this to support church members in their witness with their neighbours.
We've now just agreed all the Carols will have full BSL (British Sign Language), so people will be able to sign, as well as sing, Doorstep Carols.
