The Windrush Scandal
Tuesday 21 July - 19:30 - 20:30
Speaker: Patrick Vernon
Moderator: Rosemarie Davidson-Gotobed
This one-hour webinar was hosted by Churches Together in Britain and Ireland (CTBI) and the Baptist Union of Great Britain.
The Windrush Scandal has its roots in the hostile environment. By 2013, the Windrush Generation of Caribbean men and women who came to Britain between 1948 and 1972, and had lived most of their lives in this country, were being treated as undocumented immigrants and threatened with deportation. This resulted in the loss of jobs, and many were denied medical treatment and benefits and faced destitution. Sadly, very few church leaders from historic denominations have made a significant intervention in relation to this issue.
This was the third of five webinars focusing on racial justice in Britain and Ireland.
