New film encourages making kindness a habit
koko, a multi-award winning blog for teenage girls, has just launched a new film looking at kindness
koko, which stands for Keep On Keeping On, is a mission initiative from Girls’ Brigade Ministries created to help teenage girls explore life together. Its previous films have explored mental health, loss, and self harm.
The new film, called Dare to Care, looks at some of the issues around kindness and suggests we make it more of a habit in our lives.
‘There's a line in the film that says “Together we could change the world”, and we really do believe that,' koko Project Co-ordinator Meg Cannon said. 'We want to challenge young people to look out for one another and make kindness more of a habit in their lives.
'We hope that this film sparks conversations and moves young people to action.’
The film was launched at a Girls’ Brigade England & Wales (GB) conference earlier this month (3 November) in Birmingham and has been part-funded by Thorpe Hall School in Essex, and Girls on Board, an initiative that helps girls between the ages of 8 and 18 navigate the often troubled waters of friendship problems. Girls from Thorpe Hall School appear in the film.
Headteacher Andrew Hampton said, ‘I love the film; it's very powerful. The messaging is such a close fit to our Girls On Board initiative, which explores the issues surrounding girl friendships in schools, so we were delighted to support koko’s latest film.
'We plan to show it at Thorpe Hall at the end of anti-bullying week in a couple of weeks’ time. It shines a light on the topic in such a creative way and is a very positive resource.’
Everything on the innovative koko site, a mission initiative from Girls’ Brigade Ministries, is created with teenage girls firmly in mind to help them explore life together – inspiring, challenging and encouraging them – and looking at tough issues such as self-harm, bereavement, friendship, and identity.
