Whetstone’s new church build reaches high point

Whetstone Baptist Church’s new home is taking shape - and to mark the completion of the steelworks there will be a service next to the site this Sunday (25 June)

WhetstoneThe short outdoor service at 12.30pm in the Leicestershire village will be to give thanks for the work completed so far and pray for the rest of the build project. The church is inviting anyone who wishes to take part in the service to simply come along to the car park next to the new building.

The church’s pastor the Revd Nick Swanson said, 'Now that the full outline of the new church is visible lots of people are taking an interest in it. We’ll be giving local residents information about all our events and groups. Our aim is for the church be a blessing to and benefit the whole community.'

When finished the church will have a main worship area for 500 people which has been designed as a modern multi-purpose space.

As well as services and events, the design plans accommodate:
- meeting rooms
- specially designed children's and youth area
- playgroup rooms
- coffee lounge and catering kitchen facilities.

Whetstone Baptist Church currently run a range of events and services for the local community – the Alpha course, Messy Church, youth, toddler and children’s groups, a playgroup, senior citizen groups and, of course, Sunday services.

Its website explains how the church has outgrown its current premises, before acquiring a suitable plot of land in the village for the new building thanks to the generous giving of the church family.

If the build remains on schedule, the congregation is expecting to move into the first phase of the building in about 18 months' time.
