'A must-read guide for those who are finding life just a little hard right now'

Baptist minister Simon Robinson has been caring for a church (Watnall Road Baptist Church, Hucknall) and working in the community throughout the pandemic. Drawing on lessons learned from this turbulent time, he has written a short book to help us navigate through a crisis

Help-I mcaughtupinacrisis-coveHelp, I’m caught up in a Crisis is a practical book packed with Biblical teaching and real-life examples, says Simon. It sets out biblical principles which will equip us to navigate the inevitable crises that come into our lives and enable us to grow in our faith.

'I am writing this during what is argued to be the greatest crisis the world has faced since the Second World War: the COVID pandemic,' he notes in the introduction. 'It has affected governments, health provision, commerce, education and more. People have suffered through illness, bereavement, loss of income, and isolation.

'Here are some lessons learned during this crisis which have enabled me to keep my own life on track and help the people in my pastoral care.'

Specifically Simon sets out four simple steps in the book.

  • Firstly, we need to get thinking and understand what is going on in the light of God’s overall plan and purpose.
  • Secondly, we need to find our footing, so that we are not thrown off course when we are hit by crises, by recognising our limitations, being honest with ourselves and others, being still before God, calling out to God and challenging our thoughts.
  • Thirdly we must move forward, affirming our faith, taking one day at a time, supporting one another, and reaching out to others.
  • And finally, we are in a marathon not a sprint and we must stay the course by keeping our relationship with God on track and looking after ourselves.

'Crises usually come when we least expect, and we can easily feel overwhelmed by them,' Simon adds. 'The good news is that God is in control and he will get us through such times and use them to deepen our relationship with him.'

The booklet was welcomed by Carl Beech, CEO Edge Ministries and President Christian Vision for Men, who said, ‘With his trademark blend of pastoral wisdom, biblical insight and love for people, Simon has produced a must-read guide for those who are finding life just a little hard right now.’
