Know that I am God
Well, it has been quite a week hasn’t it? Like you, I am sure, I ended my day on Wednesday with a heavy heart and a sense of being grieved by the situation we find ourselves in as a nation. As followers of The Prince of Peace, we long for his peace in our world…
The Psalms, however, continually remind us to keep our focus on the Lord despite the circumstances that surround us. Psalm 46 captures so profoundly that sense of upheaval that we share at this time,
'Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea… Nations are in uproar…'
And yet the Psalm ends pointing in faith to the Lord,
'Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.'
At times like this it is even more important that we prayerfully dwell on the nature of God and draw close to him. If we are not to fear but to nurture our faith, we need to keep our eyes firmly fixed on the Lord; he must fill our hearts, our lives, and our vision. I am going to be meditating and seeking God using the passage from Psalm 36:5-9. It is a rich and beautiful expression of our God that is worthy of deeper reflection.
“Your love, O Lord, reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the skies. Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains, your justice like the great deep. You save humans and animals alike, O Lord. How priceless is your unfailing love! All people find refuge in the shadow of your wings. They feast in the abundance of your house; you give them drink from your river of delights. For with you is the fountain of life; in your light we see light.”
