Epic run for safe home completed

Rachel Price and Emily Chalke arrived in London on Sunday (21 June) after running 400 miles from Edinburgh  to raise money and awareness for Ella’s Home.

Ellas Home Run300Ella's Home is a safe home due to open in a couple of months time to welcome women who have experienced trafficking and/or sexual exploitation and require a place where they can take the time to recover.

The route saw a variety of terrain from hills in Scotland and Northumberland to some more welcome level ground in the middle of the country. The pair ran through countryside, towns and villages and were spurred on by members of the public.

One stand out moment was on a hot day, towards finishing a run into Darlington someone passed them ice-lollies as well as a donation to their cause.

Friends and family accompanied them for various legs of the journey. One had only planned to run half the distance they were doing, but was so inspired that she ended up running the whole 26.2 miles that day, a full marathon!

On day 16, the final day, around 50 ran with them for the last 10km and 5km with the journey’s end in Shoreditch Park. There they were greeted by a cheering crowd of family and friends.

The epic journey was made possible with the support of Steve and Ellen Price, Rachel’s parents and Baptist regional ministers in the East Midlands. Steve rode the support bike, making sure Rachel and Emily had access to food and fluids as they ran. He also organised the route each day and acted as SatNav or “DadNav!”

Ellas Home Run Ellen was on hand in the support car to give emergency medical treatment/ massages when needed, had the protein shakes ready at the end of each run and made the nutritious meals to keep their bodies going.

Most of the accommodation came through Airbnb and was provided freely to them by kind hosts.

'The run was a miracle, so many times it seemed impossible, the pain was severe at times,' they said in a statement. 'Thanks to everyone who prayed and to Jesus who answered.

'Thank you also to those churches we were able to visit.' Sadly some visits had to be cancelled due to Emily and Rachel's injuries.

Emily and Rachel set out to raise £30,000 to go towards the running of Ella’s Home. Ella’s Home is a project of Kahaila which also runs a café and bakery.
