Girls' Brigade Government grant success

Girls’ Brigade England & Wales has been given a government grant after being successfully chosen to be part of the Cabinet Office’s Uniformed Youth Social Action Fund (UYSAF) project.

Girls’ Brigade (GB) groups all over England and Wales provide rewarding, stretching and positive opportunities through which around 15,000 children and young people, between the ages of four and 18, grow and develop in confidence and skills in a Christian environment.

In total, 14 organisations have been chosen to participate in the UYSAF project, funded from the LIBOR fines pot which has been raised from banks for misdemeanours and attempted manipulation of financial markets. As well as GB the other organisations include The Boys’ Brigade, Girlguiding,
St John Ambulance, and The Scouts Association.

The funding will enable GB to focus work in six specific areas – Bristol, Durham, Leicester, London, Sheffield and South Wales - with development workers setting up new groups and reaching more children and young people.

Mission Co-ordinator Hannah Field says ‘It’s great to have been chosen to be part of this government project. GB is passionate about seeing lives and communities transformed and enriched, and we’re looking forward to working with even more churches across the country to make this vision a reality.’

Adverts for five new development worker posts can be found on the Girls' Brigade website, and the closing date for applications is midday on 22 September 2014.

Hannah adds ‘Your prayers for the right appointments, and the mission development opportunities that this creates, would be much appreciated.’

If you’d like to find out more about GB you can go to www.girlsb.org.uk or call 01246 582322 for details of your local group.
