Unexpected Surprise for Retiring Secretary
Whispering in corners, surreptitious planning, secret invitations and stealth organisational tactics all contributed to the success of a surprise lunch at Long Eaton Baptist Church for Eileen Fletcher who was retiring from her position as church secretary after serving for 32 years.
'I didn't know that people could be so sneaky', was Eileen's surprised, but pleased, response following the announcement at the end of the morning service on 24 February that the celebration lunch was taking place.
The gathering of thirty-five people from Eileen's family and church friends made this a memorable occasion for Eileen and the church.
Pastor David Shaw said, 'We did not believe that it would be possible to keep the lunch a secret as Eileen generally knows about everything that happens at LEBC!
'I am delighted that we have been able to celebrate Eileen's faithful and committed service as church secretary.
'I and many other people are very grateful for all that Eileen has done at the church during the 32 years as secretary, and also for her many more years of involvement at Station Street before this.'
Eileen was also presented by Pastor David with a gift from the members of the Church in recognition for her many years of loyal service.
Eileen is the fourth generation to attend the church, getting her first taste as a toddler in the Sunday School. She has been a member there for 69 years.
