Celebrate Seafarers this Sunday
A new worship song by Graham Kendrick and a reflection from Adrian Plass are part of a series of resources have been created to help churches mark this year's Sea Sunday
Sea Sunday is the day where churches come together to remember merchant seafarers and give thanks for the important work they do.
It always takes place on the second Sunday of July, and provides the opportunity for churches and their congregations to give thanks to God for the 1.2million merchant seafarers of the world. Ships transport 95 per cent of the commodities, food and fuel that we all rely upon.
However, life for seafarers is an isolated one, away from home for many months of the year, and in difficult conditions. The Sailors' Society provides practical and pastoral care to all seafarers through its network of chaplains.
The charity has created a sermon outline, a children's talk, a selection of hymns and prayers for the day, which always takes place on the second Sunday of July.
There is also a powerful moment of reflection from Adrian Plass, based on Radio 4's Shipping Forecast. Graham Kendrick's song is called Oh the Deep Deep Love of Jesus, and he has also recorded an interview.
