'We will be a church that is a beacon for Jesus'

The Baptist Church, Kilmington, in East Devon, recently celebrated its 372nd birthday and God's faithfulness over the years

On 31 July, the Revd Nigel Manges, a regional minister with the South West Baptist Association, preached at the morning worship service, reminding the church to 'elevate the lamp' (Mark 4: 21) to make Jesus known.

This actually forms part of the church's vision, with the building being called The Beacon. 'We will be a church that is a beacon for Jesus to the Axe Valley and beyond'.

In the afternoon, the church gathered at Loughwood Meeting House, where it all began in 1650, to thank God for His faithfulness through the years. The service followed with a picnic tea in the church grounds.

Two years ago, during lockdown, the Pastor Mike Hudson explored the church's roots to see what we can learn from them today.
