  • A Christian community based in a council estate - Moulsecoomb - living out the good news of Jesus

  • Working with and supporting people in the local community

  • Developing a chaplaincy at the local pub - one of the main community hubs in the area

  • A church grateful for Home Mission funding and the prayers of the wider Baptist family

BePartGood News Brighton is a Christian Community based in a council estate, Moulsecoomb, in Brighton. We are passionate about loving the people around us, and the place we live in. We desire to live out the Good News of Jesus in a relevant and accessible way.

GoodNews-Brighton2We meet on a weekly basis and connect in friendship regularly, sharing our faith journeys with each other, learning together what it means to be Jesus' followers, and how we can share God’s wild and borderless love, help generously and seek justice in our area.

We are involved in the local community in a number of ways, some of which are: befriending lonely and isolated people; a family-focussed holiday programme which provide food and activities for families who rely on free school meals in term time; Men in Sheds project – a DIY / woodwork group to connect men together and bless the community around us; building friendships and chaplaincy at the local co-operative pub. We want to be a community that are continually discipled by the person of Jesus, as well as each other, that encourage discipleship as a way of life.
GoodNews-BrightonWe would like to praise/thank God for:
  • how we have been welcomed into the area, the growing relationships we have made and the opportunities we have experienced
  • the chaplaincy opportunity at the local pub, as it is one of the main community hubs of the area
  • the building in the area which we have recently been given by the council to run our projects from

Practical needs of our Christian community
  • tools and wood for the Men in Sheds project
  • furniture for the building we have recently received from the council
  • the building has been a target of vandalism, therefore funds to restore the building into working order are required
  • funds and volunteers for starting up a mentorship scheme for young people in the area
  • people with a heart for mission to join our Christian community

Plans/goals/events in the upcoming year
  • for more people to join our Christian community, and to get deeper with Christ
  • start up a mentorship scheme for young people in the area
  • start up a counselling service in the area
  • plans to restore the building we have been given
  • summer street bbq/gatherings for neighbours to connect
  • hosting events at the local pub eg a stall at the summer festival, karaoke, and Christmas carol celebration

How are things in the church group?
NeilHiltonWe are enjoying seeing what God is doing in Moulsecoomb, and joining in with him on the journey.  We are growing closer together as a community, and enjoy being a fresh expression of church in the area. We are exploring and growing our gifting together, and excited to see what God has in store next.

We would like to say a great thanks to Home Mission and our Baptist family, as we would not be able to do what we are doing without their support and prayers.
The Revd Neil Hilton
Minister of Good News, Brighton
