SEBAGrow Church Ashford

  • A new church in Kent for the fast-growing borough of Ashford, sharing their growing faith

  • Developing Uprising projects connecting with young people and families

  • Your giving to Home Mission is enabling this community to be transformed

Whatever your starting point, come and Grow with us!  Grow Church Ashford, or Grow as we like to call it, is a new Baptist Church for the fast-growing Borough of Ashford.  The whole idea is that we want to want to be a church where everyone’s faith grows, and a church that sees God’s transformed society grow in Ashford and beyond.

GrowChurchAshfordWe launched in February 2016 with a core team of local people out of Ashford Baptist Church, with a compelling passion for Jesus, and a with desire for many more people to get to know him!

Though Grow is brand new as a church, we have been developing a wide range of community projects over the past five years through a linked charity called Uprising Youth and Community CIO.  So now we have the opportunity and challenge of bringing this new church plant to life and expressing our Uprising projects as the community transformation arm of Grow.

We are committed to Churches Together in Ashford, the South East Kent Baptist Network (and its Ashford cluster), SEBA and the BUGB and are also good friends with Global Generation Church in Thanet.

Three things to praise and thank God for:
  • We’ve seen one family come to faith in Jesus, many new people getting involved in the life of Grow and all of our core team getting brave in sharing their growing faith with others.
  • We have a lovely home on Sundays at Farrow Court, Stanhope Road, Ashford, TN23 5RF.  Our hosts from AgeUK Ashford and Ashford Borough Council are great people!
  • Our Uprising youth and community work is getting stronger by the day and is integrating more and more with Grow.

Three things to ask God for:
  • We are running our first Alpha, over four weeks, as a whole church, beginning on 9 November.  For the Holy Spirit to fill us with his love and power and for people’s hearts to be open to him and our invitations.
  • For us to learn how, and have the courage to, connect with the specific local community of Stanhope.
  • Growing strength and spiritual protection for the church and the Uprising team as we are doing bold new things and want to thrive and not just survive.

In the coming year we’d love for you to be able to pray along with us for:
  • Alpha, running in November 2016 and again next year.
  • Christmas events in Stanhope at Grow, at the local Children’s Centre and with AgeUK Ashford.
  • Our first ‘Why Grow?’ evening, and Vision Sunday in January, where we share what Grow is all about and invite people to take their next step.
  • Our transition to new Grow Groups (small groups open to everyone) in the spring.
  • Easter 2017 events and baptisms.
  • The developing work of Uprising as we connect with local young people and families.  Our projects include Aspire+ (alternative curriculum year for 15-16 year olds who have struggled with school), Stanhope Community Hub (a youth and community centre in the heart of Stanhope), Hang10 (on-street youth work), House (town centre youth venue) and Community Action Team (CAT is a gardening/practical project that works with the local council).

Thank you so much to all our Baptist family:
  • local cluster and network for great community and prayer
  • SEBA and Home Mission at a national level for all your generous and kind support
  • The SEBA team for your wise encouragements
  • And countless local churches and individuals for your powerful prayers during the past couple of years especially whilst our minister, Tom Pelham was particularly unwell. Tom has had some good treatment and God is continuing to heal. The doctors will keep an eye on things every few months so for now we crack on!
