Rev. Karl Henlin has been a minister of the Gospel since 1987. Born and raised in the home of Christian parents, he was fully immersed into the faith and practices of the church from an early age. From an early age he has had this sense that his life had been marked out for service through the church and as such in his later years, he responded to the call of God and offered for the ministry of the Lord Jesus through the Jamaica Baptist Union. After working for two years in the National Commercial Bank in Jamaica, he was accepted and enrolled as a student at the United Theological College of the West Indies. He assumed the pastorate of both the Gregory Park Baptist Church and the Glade Baptist Church. In subsequent years he has led the congregations to plant a new church and thus now also pastors the Sydenham Baptist Church, thus now serving three congregations as pastor.
Rev. Henlin has served the causes of the Kingdom through various opportunities opened to him through the JBU. He has served as President (2006-08) and has also served in an acting capacity as General Secretary of the JBU. Throughout the years he has been a member of the Executive Committee and has led and served on a variety of committees. He currently serves as a Superintendent Minister having pastoral oversight to the work of churches and pastors in three parishes.
Within the wider family of Baptists, he has served as a Vice President of the Caribbean Baptist Fellowship and is a member of its Executive Committee. He presently serves as Chairman of the Caribbean Christian Publications Limited, the literature ministry of the CBF. His has been the great privilege to have served as a member of the General Council of the Baptist World Alliance and presently serves as a member of the Freedom and Justice Commission as too the Commission on Spirituality and Worship.
As a member of his community he serves as a Justice of the Peace, member of the Board of Visitors of the Fort Augusta Correctional Facility and is Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Portmore Community College.
In his determination to equip himself for leadership in the church, Rev. Henlin has earned the Master of Philosophy (New Testament Studies) and the Bachelor of Arts (Theology) from the University of the West Indies as also the Diploma in Ministerial Studies at the United Theological College of the West Indies. His hobbies are listening to music, watching cricket and sometimes dabbling with a game of lawn tennis.
His has been the privilege of speaking and leading in conferences, conventions and seminars on a wide variety of subjects in Jamaica, in parts of the Caribbean and other countries outside the region.
He is married to Lisa and together they are proud parents of two young adult sons, David and Philip.
