THE BIG WELCOME
Back to Church Sunday: Come as You Are
Sunday 26 September 2010
This year we are encouraging Baptist churches to offer The Big Welcome on Back to Church Sunday – a day on which people are encouraged to invite their friends and neighbours to a church event. It's based on research showing that between 20 and 30 per cent of the population would be open to such an invitation.
This year the Baptist Union has developed some new look resources to help your church to offer The Big Welcome. Full details and a publicity flyer were sent to all Baptist churches in April; to see a copy of the flyer please click here. The closing date for receipt of orders was 15 June; packs will be despatched in late July/early August.
For all Baptist churches taking part in Back to Church Sunday 2010, please register by completing the form here. This gives us a full picture of Baptist involvement and allows us to keep you updated as our service resources are developed. Whilst the deadline for ordering packs has now passed, it is not too late to register to take part.
Service resources
We are also developing further service resources and details will be sent to all those churches which have registered as soon as they are available.
Offering a welcome
For some helpful ideas, see the new video of Mark Hope-Urwin (Director of Hospitality and Welcome at Birmingham Cathedral) in which he shares his Top Ten Tips for making people feel welcome at your church. Click here.
The Mission Department organised two ‘Belonging Before Believing’ days recently to help churches to develop a culture of welcome. To receive a free DVD with the teaching given by Mark Hope-Urwin at these days, please email mission@baptist.org.uk
