SEBAEast Worthing Baptist Church

Hi everyone. Sarah still works for the church three days a week, but fills a lot of the rest of the week with other forms of community work, as a magistrate and doing work in schools as a Spinnaker Trust volunteer. SarahBinghamShe is able to commit a lot more to the community now her MA is completed.  She sneakily went to the University of Wales graduation in April, but plans to have a ‘second show’ at the Spurgeon’s Graduation in July.  As a Dr Who fan, she was pleased to find the entrance to Torchwood.

Worthing Winter Night Shelter (beds and bedding for which were purchased using a special mission grant from SEBA) is going from strength to strength.  It opened in 2014 and ran for one month using four venues across each week.  In 2015, it ran for two months with a different venue each night.  Our aim for winter 2015-2016 is to run for the four months of worst weather (mid-November to mid-March).  The team hosting at East Worthing Baptist Church comprises members of several congregations as well as community volunteers.

EastWorthingWe are also aiming in 2015 to repeat and extend a successful project from last year, running displays and exhibitions alongside our weekly coffee morning.  This will cover every Thursday from August through to Christmas and includes hobbies, special interests, local history and personal stories.  Many people have interesting things to share and the displays give friendly opportunities to invite neighbours to come along and meet both church and other community members.

This year we sold our old manse in order to buy a smaller, more accessible manse in the community where the church premises are.  This will help as we reflect and perhaps re-shape how church does some things. As a positive start to that, during our gift weekend (20-21 June), we will be inviting friends and neighbours (including everyone who lives in the roads where the manse and church are) to come and have cream tea at the manse!  Please pray for those baking copious scones and cakes, as well as those doing the inviting and being invited.

Praise God for continuing opportunities and for new people coming regularly to coffee morning or Sunday services.

Please pray for wise stewardship of both time and money by the leaders and congregation as we seek to serve and love those who live in this neighbourhood. Thanks!
Sarah Bingham, Minister of East Worthing Baptist Church
